Burnaby Mounties are trying to figure out how the body of a man ended up in a backyard pool at a home near Crest Plaza.
The owners of a home in the 7800 block of Langley Street made the grisly discovery Friday evening when they found the body in their pool and called police.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Maj. John Buis said there is nothing to suggest the death is suspicious, adding investigators are waiting for autopsy results and confirmation of the man’s identification.
The dead man had no identification.
“We believe it may be one of our missing people from last year,” he told the NOW, adding the remains appeared to have been in the water for some time.
Police are also trying to notify the deceased’s family, which could take days, Buis said.
Buis said investigators will be trying to figure out how the man ended up in the pool, noting the pool had a motorized cover that hadn’t been opened since last fall.
