A 60-year-old man with no fixed address has been charged in connection with two sexual assaults, including one on a Burnaby bus.

On May 9, a woman was travelling on an eastbound Hastings Street bus near Boundary Road on her way to BCIT, according to a Transit Police press release.

She was groped by a man sitting beside her, but when she tried to push his hand away, he persisted, so she got up and changed seats. She got off the bus at BCIT and reported the incident while the suspect remained on board.

After looking at video footage of the incident, Transit Police identified the suspect as Chia Ning Liu, who is well known to police, according to the press release.

Liu was arrested at the Waterfront Station at about 8:30 a.m. on May 20.

He has been charged with two counts of sexual assault. The second charge is related to another groping incident on a Vancouver bus on April 28.

“Transit Police are committed to taking every report of unwanted sexual behaviour seriously and investigating thoroughly,” stated the press release. “We encourage anyone who is a victim or witness of this type of behaviour to contact us immediately.”
