City approves funding for 10 community festivals

Burnaby council approved funding for 10 festivals at Monday night's council meeting.

Summer events which received funding approval are the Ethiopian Community Summer Festival 2012, held on July 21, receiving $3,000 from the city; the Forest Grove Elementary spring fair, held on May 25, receiving $2,450; Russia Day 2012 - Festival of Russian Culture, held on June 10, receiving $3,000; the first annual Bosnian Festival, held on May 20, receiving $3,000; Hats Off Day, held on June 12, receiving $6,000; the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival 2012, held on June 23 and 24, receiving $6,000; and the Jamaica 50 Vacation Festival, held on Aug. 11, receiving $5,000.

Three fall events also received funding approval - the Korean-Canadian Literary Festival, held on Sept. 13, will receive $3,000; the Nikkei Fall Harvest Fair, held on Oct. 13, will receive $5,000; and the Deer Lake Craft Show, held Nov. 8 to 11, receiving $5,000.
