There'll be more space for drinking and revelry at Simon Fraser University in the future, so long as B.C.'s Liquor Control and Licensing Branch approve the liquor licences.
Burnaby council is supporting the university's applications to change its current liquor licences, which would include liquor primary licences for special event and reception areas - such as the Chancellor's Gym - while licences at the cafeterias, movie theatre, Diamond Alumni Centre and other locations would be changed to food primary licences.
The capacity for liquor primary areas on campus would increase by 1,033 people, accommodating 2,853 altogether according to a report by the city's director of planning and building, Basil Luksun.
The student pub licence would not be affected.
