City doctors walk the talk

Burnaby doctors joined more than 150 people for a two-kilometre stroll along the seawall in Vancouver on Saturday for the Walk With Your Doc event, hosted by the B.C. Medical Association.

Burnaby doctors joined more than 150 people for a two-kilometre stroll along the seawall in Vancouver on Saturday for the Walk With Your Doc event, hosted by the B.C. Medical Association.

The event was organized to encourage people to become more active, and to demonstrate B.C. doctors' commitment to modelling a healthy lifestyle for their patients.

Shelley Ross, a local doctor and president of the association, told the crowd, "We are not just 'talking the talk,' we are 'walking the walk' side-by-side with patients."

Davidicus Wong, a Burnaby physician and NOW columnist called the walk a success.

"Events like this really connect physicians with their patients in new and positive ways," he said in a press release. "I'm going to encourage all of my colleagues to do the walk."

Participants received a free pedometer as well as hints on how to reach 10,000 steps a day.

Throughout this week, there will be more than 70 physician-lead Walk with your Doc events across B.C.
