Burnaby council is donating copies of Burnaby's Heritage - An Inventory of Buildings and Structures to the Burnaby Public Library and Burnaby School District Library Resource Centre.

Three hundred copies of the 157-page book documenting Burnaby's history through architecture were bound last year. The city is donating $1,500 worth of copies to the local libraries.

The publication is also accessible online for free at www.burnaby.ca, in electronic book form.

NAGAR KIRTAN PARADE

The sixth annual Nagar Kirtan Parade, happening this April, will see six roads used for its parade route.

On Saturday, April 6, the parade will begin at noon and return to the temple around 6 p.m., making several temporary stops along the way.

Parade organizers are expected to send letters to the affected businesses and residents along the parade route at least two weeks in advance of the event date.

PEDESTRIAN SIGNAL

Thanks to a delegation that went to Burnaby council last November, led by a concerned resident, a pedestrian signal is going in at Kingsway and Olive Avenue.

Judy Parker presented a video and an online petition requesting the installation of a pedestrian activated traffic signal at the intersection, which in 2007 was not deemed necessary by a staff report.

Since the November delegation led by Parker, staff conducted a formal review that showed crossings at Kingsway and Olive Avenue have increased, peaking at more than 60 crossings during the morning rush hour, according to a city report.

The signal is estimated to cost $220,000, and funding is available from the traffic management component of the 2013 provision capital program. It will be installed later this year.
