City hands out annual lease grants to community groups

Burnaby council approved the 2013 lease grants for community groups based at the Holdom Community Resource Centre and the Edmonds Neighbourhood Resource Centre at the Sept. 10 council meeting.

Burnaby council approved the 2013 lease grants for community groups based at the Holdom Community Resource Centre and the Edmonds Neighbourhood Resource Centre at the Sept. 10 council meeting.

The Burnaby Family Life Institute, Afghan Women's Sewing and Craft Cooperative, Canadian Mental Health Association, Canadian Red Cross Society, Immigrant Services Society of B.C. and St. Matthew's Day Care Society in the Edmonds centre all received 50 per cent lease offsetting grants. The Deaf Children's Society of B.C. received a 25 per cent leaseoffsetting grant.

At Holdom, the Burnaby Family Life Institute, Dixon Transition Society, Burnaby Seniors Outreach Services Society, Volunteer Burnaby and Burnaby Community Connections all received grants amounting to a 50 per cent lease offset.

The lease grants totaled $120,906, while the total of the lease rates for the organizations for 2013 amounted to $274,043 prior to the grants.
