The City of Burnaby has once again been recognized for its financial reporting.

The Government Finance Officers Association has awarded the city a trio of awards including the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting, the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

It's the eighth straight year Burnaby has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting and the fourth consecutive year they've been recognized with the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

“Congratulations to the Finance Department and Deputy Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Financial Officer Noreen Kassam for continuing to set the gold standard for financial reporting in B.C.,” Mayor Mike Hurley said in a news release.

“We are lucky to have such a talented group of people here at the city and it is great to see their efforts recognized year after year.”

In September, the city announced Kassam had been appointed as the Chief Financial Officer. She was also named the new Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, the first woman to hold the position.

“Noreen has shown tremendous leadership capability and managed the City finances with due care and diligence,” Chief Administrative Officer Leon Gous said in the announcement.

“I am excited to have her working by my side as we continue to achieve our goals in becoming a world-class city.”
