City of Burnaby goes on a hiring binge amid COVID-19

The City of Burnaby is hiring new workers.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a huge number of people out of work, with many of those jobs never coming back if or when this all ends.

So, it’s good news that some places are hiring – like the City of Burnaby.

“Our sewers and water operations divisions have openings for labourers,” reads a new posting. “Be part of the team that impacts every resident, business and visitor to our city by providing a clean and safe environment.”

These are good-paying jobs with a starting wage of $29.40 per hour, plus benefits.

Duties and responsibilities of Labourers working in the sewers division include, but are not restricted to:

  • Sanitary and Storm Sewer maintenance
  • Sanitary and Storm Sewer construction
  • Installation and rehabilitation of small to large diameter pipe
  • Trench excavation
  • Other related duties as required by the department

This position requires knowledge and skills in the methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in construction and maintenance work. Sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination are required. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
