The City of Burnaby says it will deactivate its emergency warming centre this weekend as warmer temperatures are forecast to arrive.
The city says the centre, located at the Bonsor Recreation Complex, will close as of Feb. 26 at 8 a.m. It was opened on Feb. 21, 2022, as arctic air crept into Metro Vancouver.
Shelter and services are still available for those in need at the following facilities:
- Douglas Shelter - 2294 Douglas Rd.
- Emergency Response Centre - 3680 Sperling Ave.
- Extreme weather shelters:
- Southside Community Church - 7135 Walker Ave. (Open from the first to 15th of the month)
- Westminster Bible Chapel - 7540 6th St. (Open 16th to end of the month)
