Burnaby RCMP held a moment of silence this morning in light of yesterday’s shooting in Moncton, N.B.

Burnaby Staff Sgt. Maj. John Buis told the NOW the department held a small ceremony Thursday morning to honour the Mounties who were killed on Wednesday when a 24-year-old Moncton man allegedly went on a rampage.

According to police, three RCMP officers were killed and two others injured, one seriously. The alleged shooter, Justin Bourque, has yet to be apprehended by police. Latest updates indicate northern Moncton remains in lockdown while police attempt to arrest the suspect.

Since news broke of the incident, Burnaby RCMP has received numerous emails from people in the community looking to extend their condolences to those affected in Moncton. In light of this response, a rotating banner with messages of condolences to the officers in Moncton has been added to the Burnaby RCMP homepage at www.burnaby.rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

The local RCMP is also asking that anyone wanting to send condolences to the Moncton RCMP do so via email at [email protected].
