Burnaby cooling centres close after Metro Vancouver heat wanes

Temperatures are now back down to our more usual summer zone.

Cooling centres are being opened in Burnaby as Metro Vancouver remains under an extreme heat warning.

Burnaby has now closed its cooling centres again after a short-lived heatwave that hit Metro Vancouver this week passed.

Environment Canada issued a heat warning Aug. 16 for numerous parts of the region, including Burnaby and New Westminster, with highs projected to reach up to 35 C inland. As of today (Friday, Aug. 19),  temperatures have returned to less extreme summer weather, with highs projected in the mid- to high 20s for the next several days.

City cooling centres in Burnaby are now closed.

North Burnaby

  • Cameron Community Centre (9523 Cameron St.)
  • Eileen Dilly Leisure Pool and Fitness Centre (240 Willingdon Ave.) 

South Burnaby

  • Bonsor Recreation Complex (6550 Bonsor Ave.) 
  • Edmonds Community Centre (7433 Edmonds St.)
