Another Burnaby long-term care facility has had its COVID-19 outbreak declaration lifted.

In a statement yesterday (Jan. 19), Fraser Health announced the outbreak at Chartwell Carlton Gardens is officially over.

"With the implementation of comprehensive strategies to prevent and respond to COVID-19 in care facilities, there are no longer any COVID-19 cases at these locations," the statement said.

The outbreak was declared on Dec. 31, 2021, after five cases were discovered involving one resident and four staff members. No deaths were reported.

Burnaby facilities that are still under outbreak declarations include George Derby Centre, New Vista Care Centre, St. Michael's Centre and Burnaby Hospital.

Positivity rates for COVID-19 infections have gone up, according to the latest data released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

However, the updated data from Jan. 11 to 17, 2022, shows case rates in the four quadrants dropped as Omicron continues to put a major strain on B.C.'s health-care system.

On Jan. 18, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced gyms would gradually re-open on Jan. 20, but all other public health orders were being extended until Feb. 16, including limits on gatherings, events and restaurants.

The restrictions were originally announced just days before Christmas on Dec. 21, 2021.

Case rates are new cases per 100,000 people by local health area and community health service area.
