COVID-19 cases are rising quickly as B.C. also sees a surge.

The latest provincial COVID-19 data shows there's been little to no improvement in case and positivity rates throughout Burnaby's four quadrants.

The data, released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) for Oct. 29 to Nov. 4, 2021,  also shows vaccination rates in the city also continue to stall for both first and second doses.

In other local COVID-19 news, Fraser Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Burnaby Hospital after evidence of transmission in a medicine unit,

Two patients have tested positive for COVID-19 as part of this outbreak, said a Fraser Health news release, adding that the outbreak is limited to one unit, which is temporarily closed to admissions.

“Upon declaring the outbreak, Fraser Health immediately implemented precautions, including enhanced cleaning as well as contact tracing to protect the health of all staff, medical staff, and patients,” a statement stated.

The health authority said it has notified all patients on the affected unit about the outbreak, and in addition, families of patients who are unable to share this information have been informed.

Case rates are new cases per 100,000 people by local health area and community health service area.
