Cycling fans of all ages are being invited to an afternoon of races and prizes.
To celebrate its commitment to cycling culture, Concord Pacific will be hosting the Concord Metrotown Bike Festival in front of the old Sears store at Metropolis at Metrotown mall.
It will be an afternoon festival on Aug. 22 in the parking lot on the north side of the mall. Beginning at 1 p.m., it will included an iRide youth cycling zone for kids, DJ entertainment, a community barbecue, prize draws, displays of rare bicycles, trek bike demos, free bike tune ups from Velofix, Metro Vancouver Transit Police bike registration, and vendors including EnRoute and stickers for kids from Jukebox Print and more.
The spectator-friendly Tour de Concord race will begin at 3 p.m. It will be on a closed course bordering the future home of Concord Metrotown where Cat 1 & 2 racers will contend for $5,000 in prizes. Prior to the race start, the public will be able to take turns on the course.
Registration for the event will help Concord safely plan the event. Registrants for the festival will receive a choice of concessions. Race details and event sign up will be made available on concordmetrotown.com.
