Emma Earle is looking forward to the end of the school year, not to get out of studying, but to study full-time.
Ballet, that is.
The nine-year-old local girl takes dance lessons at Ballet Classique in Burnaby.
In November, she auditioned for and was accepted into the summer intensive program at the renowned National Ballet School of Canada.
For the month of July, she will take ballet classes for up to eight hours a day, six days a week and will stay in residence at the Toronto school, said her mother, Danielle Vezina.
"She's been asking to do this audition; she might as well know what it's really all about, to have to live there and be without your parents and your family," she said.
Emma started taking ballet classes at age three and wants to be a professional ballerina.
"I'm really excited," she said. "I think it will be really hard and a good opportunity, probably."
This Christmas season, she danced in the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's production of The Nutcracker here in Vancouver.
"She always wanted to dance, and my background is in dance," Vezina said. "Out of my kids, it was very obvious that she had all the right body configurations, so she had to dance."
Vezina said it will be difficult to be apart from her daughter for month but is proud of her ccomplishment and supportser pursuit of a career as a danc-r.
"This summer's probably going to be a pretty big decisive factor in that for her," she said.
