This holiday season, Burnaby residents can show their support for military families while decorating their Christmas trees.

Burnaby's Brentwood Town Centre is unveiling a new Christmas tree ornament on Dec. 4, and proceeds will go to a federal government fund that supports military families.

Capt. Chris Poulton, who just returned from 10 months in Afghanistan, will be at an ornament-unveiling event at Brentwood next week. Poulton is happy to be home for the holidays, and his wife is pleased to have him.

"We are lucky that the transition back to life in Canada has gone fairly smoothly for Chris," said Sherrilynn Poulton in a press release. "I know this is not always the case for B.C. reservists who are making the transition back to civilian jobs and family life."

Brentwood Town Centre is hosting the unveiling on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 12:30 p.m. at Sears. The ornament will sell for $7.88, with all proceeds going to the federal government's military families fund.

There will also be a banner for the public to sign, which will be sent to a naval ship afterwards. More than 50 B.C. families will have a loved one deployed over the holidays. The ornament will be on sale from Dec. 4 to 24.
