Developer using unique way to sell remaining Burnaby Mountain units

People looking for a good deal may have just hit the jackpot. Hungerford Properties is offering a one-day "groupon-style" sale for their newest development Altitude on Burnaby Mountain.

"It means using group buying power to provide deals to people who wouldn't otherwise be there," said Jason Dolker, director of sales and marketing for Hungerford Properties.

Prior to the one-day event - taking place June 8 - people planning on buying one of Hungerford's Altitude condominiums at Simon Fraser University's UniverCity must register online. Once they've registered, Dolker said they should come to the sales office and look at the show rooms and the different units available.

"We recommend people to come up prior to the event so that they can preview and get more knowledgeable about what they want," he said. "That way the day of, when they arrive, they already know what they want and it's not an education process."

While Dolker admits some companies that offer deals with companies such as Groupon can sometimes face financial hardship, for a developer like Hungerford, that isn't even a concern.

"It's really different for us. We're a longstanding developer that has been in business for over 35 years," he said.

Plus the development is already under construction so there's no risk of Hungerford Properties going out of business because of the groupon-style sale, and the sale is a technique the company is using in order to sell the remaining units in the two-tower development, Dolker added.

According to Dolker, there are about 40 per cent of the units still available to purchase, including one- and two-bedroom units. A two-bedroom plus den unit typically sells for $416,000, but if someone were to register for the sale and purchase the unit on June 8, it would only cost them $375,900 - a savings of more than $40,000.

"Because of this group buying power we will provide a significant discount on our homes to that group that has registered for the event," he said.
