Two men captured on security video chasing a Yorkshire terrier around a Burnaby yard and then taking off with her were not the dognappers they appeared to be, according to Burnaby RCMP.
Two weeks ago, local Mounties asked for the public’s help identifying two persons of interest in the alleged theft of Lucy the Yorkshire Terrier, who went missing from her home in the 6000 block of Berwick Street on Aug. 10.
Surveillance video had captured two men entering the yard of the home and chasing Lucy around the yard before capturing her.
But police have since identified and questioned both men, and a “thorough investigation” has determined there was no criminality involved in the incident.
“The men have stated that they saw Lucy running around and were concerned about the potential for Lucy to run into traffic,” stated a Burnaby RCMP press release Wednesday. “After safely capturing Lucy, the men stated that they drove around the area in an attempt to locate Lucy's owners. Lucy then ran from the men when they stopped their vehicle to give her some water and was located by a member of the public and taken to the Burnaby RCMP detachment.”
Police said Lucy’s owners have been updated and are happy with the outcome of the investigation.
