A 46-year-old Burnaby man who smashed a Toyota Corolla into a parked car and then a tree near the Burnaby-Vancouver border was arrested for driving while prohibited shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called to the 4400 block of Boundary Road at about 12:10 a.m., according to assistant fire Chief Dave Younger.

They found one vehicle in the grass median with front-end damage and another car parked in the northbound lane with rear-end damage.

The driver was not injured and wanted to leave, but firefighters told him he would have to talk to police first, Younger said.

Witnesses said the man had shown signs of impairment, according to Burnaby RCMP Sgt. Dave Eidet, but a breathalyzer registered zero.

The man now faces charges of driving while prohibited. He was released on a promise to appear in provincial court on June 4.
