An investigation is ongoing into the cause of a multi-vehicle collision Friday night (July 9) along Glenayre.

One person is in hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries after Port Moody police (PMPD) came across the incident, believing speed and driving behaviour as factors.

Around 11:30 p.m., while answering an unrelated call, PMPD members heard an apparent collision on 1200-block Glenayre Drive and found two vehicles had crashed into each other.

It was determined both a blue Saturn and a black Ford lost control, then the Saturn went up in flames — leaving the driver trapped inside — after it collided with a parked vehicle and a home.

According to a PMPD statement, an officer was able to put out the blaze with a police-issued fire extinguisher they had in their cruiser vehicle.

The driver of the Saturn was extracted after Port Moody Fire Rescue and other first responders arrived on scene.

They were then taken to hospital to be treated for injuries, while the Ford driver was uninjured.

Police are asking for the public's help in its investigation of the multi-vehicle collision by providing dashcam footage or witness statements.

Anyone with more information is urged to call PMPD at 604-461-3456 and quote file number 2021-3771.
