Drugs believed to be factor in Burnaby crash that knocked out lights: police

Vehicle lost control and slammed into light standard

Drugs are believed to have been a factor in a single-vehicle crash that sent one man to hospital and knocked out street lights in Burnaby's Willingdon Heights neighbourhood Tuesday night.

Police were called to the area of Gilmore Avenue and Georgia Street at about 8:15 p.m. for reports of a single-vehicle collision, according to Burnaby RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Brett Cunningham.

At the scene, he said officers found a car that had slammed into a light standard.

The driver, a 29-year-old Surrey resident who was the vehicle's only occupant, was taken to hospital, according to Cunningham.

"Drugs are believed to be a factor," he said.
