A 27-year-old male driver who flew through a Burnaby construction zone at 101 clicks is out $644 in traffic tickets and won’t have his electric Hyundai Kona to drive around for a week.

Burnaby RCMP traffic enforcement officers were at Gaglardi Way and Broadway on Tuesday ticketing speeders.

They caught 20 drivers going too fast through a 40 km/h construction zone there, according to spokesperson Cpl. Daniela Panesar.

Along with the excessive speeding violation, the Hyundai driver was also caught without a valid driver’s licence.

He produced an international permit but no licence, according to Panesar.

She said both an international permit and a licence from the driver’s home country are needed to drive legally in Canada.

The Hyundai was impounded for seven days.
