To celebrate the spooky season this year, Explore Burnaby is running Boo-rnaby Trick or Treat contest. The main prize is an “Explore Burnaby Shop and Stay” package, comprising of gift certificates to local malls, as well as a one-night hotel stay.
Beginning on Oct, 13, 13 riddles will be uploaded to the Tourism Burnaby website, which will direct participants to iconic Burnaby landmarks- with a few hidden gems too.

To enter, participants will need to solve the riddle and submit a picture of themselves at the correct location through the contests’ online portal. Participants can solve as many or as little of the thirteen challenges that they like. Bonus prizes will be awarded on social media as well. Contestants can share their picture using #BOOnaby and be entered to win one of five weekly “trick or treats”- a treat such as a gift card or a surprise trick.
This contest is part of Burnaby’s plan to become the largest Halloween hub in North America, developed after the Halloween festival in Derry, Ireland.

“Due to COVID-19 restrictions on large in-person gatherings, we have had to pivot to a safe, socially distanced alternative.  We hope families and social bubbles can still have some of the fun the season is about,” said Chris Peters, Tourism Burnaby’s executive director.
