Transit Police and Burnaby RCMP officers cracked down on drivers using the bus lane on Lougheed Highway between Gaglardi and Production Way on Tuesday morning.
Despite officers wearing visible vests and police vehicles parked in plain view, 50 violation tickets were issued to drivers for disobeying a traffic control device, which is a $121 fine and counts as two points on the violator's driver's licence.
The bus lane on Lougheed Highway is a known area for drivers using that lane when traffic is backed up, according to a TransLink press release.
"Transit Police would like to remind drivers not to cross over a solid white line, to cross only into a turn lane where the dividing line is broken," a TransLink press release states, "and to yield the right of way in marked bus lanes, so as not to impede rush hour traffic or create any traffic hazards."
