Firefighters lend a hand in bureau campaign

Toy drive and pancake breakfast set for last Friday in November

The Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society has made a name for itself championing good causes in Burnaby and beyond, including the food bank and other non-profit groups.

Right now, they're gearing up for the first - and hopefully annual - Christmas Angel Breakfast and Toy Drive in support of the Burnaby Christmas Bureau.

The bureau provides toys for children from low-income families at Christmas time.

Set for Friday, Nov. 30 from 6 to 9 a.m. at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown, the pancake breakfast event is open to the public and includes an impressive entertainment line-up including iconic Canadian artist and Juno Award winner Jim Byrnes.

A.J. Woodworth, winner of the 2011 B.C. Country Music Award female artist of the year, and the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services Band are also scheduled to be on hand.

Participants who bring a new, unwrapped toy or cash donation for the bureau will receive a pancake breakfast in the ballroom, or a continental-breakfast-on-the-go.

Happening tomorrow

Celebrate in style - and lend a hand while enjoying some festive cheer.

The Fill a Stocking, Fulfill a Wish fundraising dinner takes place tomorrow Nov. 22, at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown, starting at 5 p.m. The evening will include live entertainment, silent and live auctions and more. Tickets are $55. Call 604299-5778 to purchase.
