Five local heroes of 2021 recognized by City of Burnaby

The City of Burnaby has released its five 2021 Local Hero recipients.

Five Burnaby residents are being recognized for their contributions throughout the community. 

In the program's 24th year, the City of Burnaby has announced its 2021 Local Heroes recipients.

'This year's nominees, like their predecessors, show many qualities of a hero," a news release says. 

"They have made noteworthy contributions to community well-being by spending countless hours improving the health, safety and quality of life of Burnaby’s citizens." 

The five local heroes are: 

  • Eric Berkefeld 
  • Winnie Cheung 
  • Raymond M. Chow, MStJ
  • Teresa Rasquinha 
  • Rory Tennant 

Council presented certificates of recognition at its Oct. 25 meeting.

The says to date, they have recognized 270 local heroes with every second year allowing Burnaby citizens to nominate candidates for the award. 

Any resident that has been an active volunteer in Burnaby for at least five years in a minimum of two activities is deemed eligible.
