Christine Sinclair Community Centre official opening
Join soccer legend and Olympic champion Christine Sinclair this weekend for the official opening of namesake community centre. On Saturday, Sept. 9, the City of Burnaby is inviting community members for the official "kick-off" of the Christine Sinclair Community Centre — filled with plenty of free, family-friendly events including face painting, music, food trucks, family activities and a jamboree headlined by the Burnaby FC from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At 11 a.m., Sinclair will assist in the official unveiling of the dedication wall before signing some autographs.

Self-defence workshop (Krav Maga)

Unleash your inner strength and learn the art of self-defence at this Krav Maga class on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Central Park. Krav Maga is a form of real-world self-defence martial art. Whether you're a beginner or have prior martial arts experience, the event is designed to teach you the art form in a simple, effective, and applicable manner.
The hour-long workshop will guide you through the core principles of Krav Maga, including situational awareness, efficient strikes, defensive techniques, and controlling confrontations. The workshop, priced at $20, will run from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

Burnaby Artisan Farmers market
Prepare for the fall by visiting your local farmers market this weekend. The farmers market will be back at its regular location at Burnaby City Hall’s parking lot (4949 Canada Way) on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., where you can browse through the local vendor stalls. Musician Darryl Klassen will be on-site to provide some live entertainment and soothe your ears.

Nikkei Garden Farmers Market 2023
Another farmers market in Burnaby for you to browse through: Nikkei Garden Farmers market. If the Saturday farmers market was not enough for you, head to Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre for a leisurely stroll amidst the Japanese garden and shop freshly harvested, locally grown produce. Japanese-inspired food and artisanal goods will also be available for you to savour and explore.

End-of-summer picnic
American Society of Quality (ASQ) Vancouver is hosting its 4th annual end-of-summer picnic in Central Park this weekend. Enjoy a free summer picnic, socializing with new and old ASQ members and bid farewell to summer the picnic way.
The Breakfast at the Park picnic will held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9 at Central Park picnic area (between Swangard stadium and variety park playground). The even is free, but registration through Eventbrite is required. Activities and goodies will be provided by ASQ Vancouver.
