Surrey RCMP is investigating an incident of dangerous driving and assault that took place on Saturday, April 27 in the Newton Area.
The incident took place at approximately 7:45 pm, when Surrey RCMP Frontline members responded to the area of 135A Street and 88 Avenue. They had received received multiple 911 calls of vehicles driving dangerously and people fighting in the street.
Three males who were involved in the incident were transported to hospital, two with minor injuries and one with serious injuries. In addition, two vehicles were located at the scene, a Nissan Maxima and a Ford Taurus; both vehicles were seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police believe the parties involved in the incident are known to each other, and that the incident may be linked to the Lower Mainland Gang conflict. Although some initial reports indicated shots had been fired in this incident, police can confirm that no shots were fired.
The investigation is ongoing and investigators are looking for the other individuals and vehicles involved in the event:
- a red Dodge Caravan
- a Black Volkswagon Jetta
- burgundy Honda Accord
Gurpreet Singh Sahota shared three videos of the incident to his Facebook account, as well as some commentary on the current social climate in Surrey.
“It’s time to call Army in Surrey, if police and politicians can’t control the situation of law and order. This happened Saturday evening close to 135A and 89A ave.
Public safety is at risk,” he wrote.
“Our politicians are busy attending dinners, galas, bhog etc. If they can’t control it, all should resign and give the control of Surrey to Canadian Army.”
Investigators are aware of videos of this incident that are circulating on social media and ask if anyone has video of the incident or has information about this event or the individuals involved, to please contact them.
