'Foul play' suspected after body found in Burnaby industrial area

Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man's body was found near a large gravel lot on Norland Avenue near Laurel Street Thursday morning.

Homicide investigators have been called in after the body of a man was found in an industrial area in Burnaby Thursday morning.

First responders were called to a large gravel lot near a vacant building on Norland Avenue near Laurel Street around 9:45 a.m. after a member of the public reported finding a body in the area, according to a Burnaby RCMP news release.

The victim, an adult male, had injuries “consistent with foul play” and there are early indications the incident was targeted, the release said.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in to investigate.

Police are currently in the evidence-gathering phase, and investigators are looking for dashcam video from the area near Norland Avenue and Laurel Street taken between 9 p.m. Wednesday evening to 9:45 a.m. Thursday morning.
