Franca Zumpano is running as an independent candidate for school board: Public education is the cornerstone of our Canadian society. The preservation of such is imperative.
Burnaby schools' primary focus must be providing education that demonstrates excellence, flexibility and preparedness for the new economy and relevant and available to ALL children whose home is Burnaby.
We must move from " Good Places to Learn" to Places of EXCELLENCE to learn. We must create warm respectful environments that meet the needs of all children. We must embrace technology in the distribution of our curriculum. We must prepare our students to be global citizens. We must provide teachers with the necessary professional development and respect as professionals. All school board employees must be engaged in the pursuit of servicing our future citizens in the most comprehensive, cost efficient, transparent, accountable and caring manner. I bring to this position 41 years of experience as an elementary and secondary teacher, as a special education teacher and district co-ordinator, and as an administrator. I understand the processes. I understand what is possible and I understand the "politics" of the district. I bring to this position the knowledge and experience of being a mother, grandmother, community activist and board member. (past Vancity director and chair, former board member of BCIT and SFU, former committee chair for the City of Burnaby - social issue, traffic and planning. Founding member of the Burnaby Multicultural Society, Italian Chamber of Commerce. and Inspire Health. I know what is possible and I understand how we can make it happen. I want to bring my knowledge and experiences coupled with your voice to SERVE YOU.
