Get busy this weekend

We're officially in the dog days of summer, and with only three weekends left before the kids head back to school and work ramps up for adults again, it's time to get outside and experience the best that Burnaby has to offer.

We're officially in the dog days of summer, and with only three weekends left before the kids head back to school and work ramps up for adults again, it's time to get outside and experience the best that Burnaby has to offer.

We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend, and we have a few more events sure to excite all locals as summer continues in our fine city.

1 Get listening and dancing to the local band, So Tight, playing at the Admiral Pub and Grill at 4125 Hastings St. on both Aug. 17 and 18.

The music will be a lot of fun, but you can also stay for a great meal at the Admiral, as there are food specials every day.

And if you love Major League Baseball, there are large-screen high-definition televisions all over the place. For more info, call 604-298-7158.

2 Get watching the Great Zucchini Races at the Burnaby Farmers Market at noon on Saturday, Aug. 18 in the Burnaby city hall parking lot. Spectators are welcome to watch these "vehicles" made completely out of vegetables run down an incline on four wheels.

Those who'd like to compete can bring their racer assembled or they can make it at the popular farmers' market.

There's different age categories and lots of prizes. For more info, go to www.artisanmarkets.ca or call Lyn at 604-318-0487.

3 Get viewing The Lorax on Friday, August 17 as part of the Screen on the Green Outdoor Movie Night at SFU.

This familyfriendly event at the meadow at SFU, in the space at Gaglardi Way and South Campus Road, just south of the Maggie Benston Centre, is a free movie showing which starts at sundown. For more info, email info@ univercity.ca.

4 Get registered for an old-fashioned ice cream making class at the Burnaby Village Museum on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 10 to 11: 30 a.m. To register, call 604-297-4565. For more information, go to www. burnabyvillagemuseum.ca. Cost is $10 per person.

5 Get eating at Burnaby's newest and trendiest restaurant. Cotto Enoteca Pizzeria opened on July 30 at 6011 Hastings St. and has already had rave reviews from local diners.

Using a wood-fired brick oven to make real Neapolitan pizza, Cotto Enoteca is the brainchild of managing partner Alex Tung. For more info, go to www.cotto.ca. To make a reservation, call 6042998002.
