It's the long weekend and that means an extra day to enjoy the last sunny days of the year. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend, and we have a few more events sure to excite all locals.

Get collecting non-perishables on Saturday, Oct. 6 for a food drive organized by Comfort Keepers, in association with the Salvation Army. The organizations are collecting non-perishable food cans at the two Save-on-Foods Burnaby locations at Metrotown and HighGate Village from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The goal is to collect 1,000 cans for this worthy cause, so if you can spare a can or two, especially during Thanksgiving, there are people who will be very thankful.

Get cheering for the SFU Clan football team as they host Azusa Pacific at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fox Field. The Clan are coming off a thrilling 41-28 win over Dixie State last week, as running back Bo Palmer ran for four scores and quarterback Trey Wheeler threw for another two touchdowns. Get up on the hill and cheer on the Clan as they try to make it two in a row.

Get watching Welcome to Woody Sed, a new play about the life and times of Woody Guthrie and the songs he sang about them. Starring Thomas Jones, Woody Sed features 19 songs and offers a cascade of 25 colourful characters, all bundled up in a true-to-life tale. The show is on both Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. Tickets are $32 for adults and $27 for students and seniors.

Get donating on Sunday, Oct. 7 for the annual Christmas Toy Run, the largest event of its kind in Canada and the largest contributor to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, including the Burnaby Christmas Bureau. Bring your toys for underprivileged children and food for families in need to the event, which will see motorcyclists with toys and food riding along Hastings Street between Inlet Drive and Boundary Road. The event runs from approximately 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and with some road closures in the area, people are asked to obey police traffic officers' directions.

Get rooting for Olympic champion Kevin Martin at the 13th annual Westcoast Curling Classic at the Royal City Curling Club in New Westminster. This event features some of the best curlers in the world, including former world champion Kevin Koe and local rinks skipped by Brent Pierce, Ken McArdle and Sean Geall. The tournament runs all weekend, from Oct. 5 to 8, with the final scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8. Martin's first match is Friday at 2 p.m., when he faces Pierce. The Royal City Curling Club is located at 75 East Eighth Ave. in New Westminster, with many of the out-of-town curlers staying in Burnaby hotels.
