A new bocce area at Confederation Park was made possible through a $15,000 donation from the Burnaby-based G&F Financial Group.

The courts were completed in time for the B.C. Seniors Games bocce competition held this week.

"The Games exemplify the spirit of cooperation, community, and diversity. These values are a true reflection of our credit union's purpose and promise to our members and neighbours. We're proud to support such an amazing event in our own backyard," the financial group's North Burnaby branch manager Gill Sherwood said in a press release.

The bocce area features three temporary courts for use during the Games. Two permanent courts will be constructed once the competition is over. All of the courts are being built using international standards and dimensions.

Funding for the bocce courts is provided by G&F's charitable foundation, which was established in 2003 to support registered charities throughout the Lower Mainland. The majority of funding is provided from the credit union. In its history, 87 donations, totalling more than $586,000, have been made.
