Grants help community efforts

Money available for projects that connect people with neighbours

It's that time of year again, when the South Burnaby Neighbourhood House offers up grants for local residents to improve their community.

The neighbourhood small grants program distributes up to $500 for people with projects that connect neighbours.

The application deadline is Monday, April 30 at 4 p.m.

Some typical project examples include neighbourhood murals, block parties, tree planting projects and community festivals.

Only Burnaby residents are eligible, and the events must be non-profit and free to the public.

The proposed projects must take place between May 15 and Nov. 25 this year. Only groups of residents can apply; the grants are not for organizations.

There's an upcoming information session on the program on Thursday, April 26. It starts at 10 a.m. at the South Burnaby Neighbourhood House, at 4845 Imperial St.
