It's described as "a joyous and happy show that makes you want to dance and tap your toes," and it's coming to the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts on April 13.

The Denis Chang Manouche Quartet will be onstage at the Shadbolt at 8 p.m.

Chang is a guitarist who specializes in manouche, also known as gypsy jazz. His performance will include music by the legendary Django Reinhardt, who adapted gypsy folk melodies to the rhythms of American jazz and rose to widespread European popularity in the 1930s.

But Chang's quartet also performs music that's influenced by rock, be-bop and R&B.

Chang's performance styles reflect the many influences his youth, which he spent alongside some of the greatest jazz manouche guitarists in the world. He also developed his own style inspired by various styles of music - with influences as diverse as Bach, Chopin, George Benson and Michael Jackson.

He has toured extensively in Canada, the U.S. and Europe, and his Burnaby visit is part of a B.C. tour.

Tickets are $32 regular, $27 for students and seniors or $10 for youth 12 and under. Book online at www.shadboltcentre.com or call 604-205-3000.
