A familiar face returned to the Heights Merchants Association last week.
Former 2013 summer marketing and events assistant Sydney Van Alstyne officially started as the association’s marketing and events coordinator on Oct. 20. Van Alstyne replaces former coordinator Sajeda Virji who left the Heights Merchants Association on Aug. 7 for a position with the marketing department at Douglas College.
Van Alstyne has a diploma from BCIT’s marketing and communications program, and has worked on several marketing teams, including Cavalier Jewellers in Gastown and the Heights Merchants Association.
As the summer marketing and events coordinator for the association in 2013, Van Alstyne assisted with a number of events, including Hats Off Day for which she was the parade coordinator in 2013 and 2014.
“We believe Sydney (Van Alstyne) has the marketing skills, aptitude and, most of all, a warm, outgoing personality, to really fit in and make the Heights the best it can be,” said Isabel Kolic, Heights Merchants Association executive director, in a release.
