Heights welcomes new G&F Burnaby branch

G&F Financial Group is opening a North Burnaby location this September. "At G&F our members are also our owners and every business decision we make is meant to benefit them," co-chief executive officer Jeff Shewfelt said in a press release.

G&F Financial Group is opening a North Burnaby location this September.

"At G&F our members are also our owners and every business decision we make is meant to benefit them," co-chief executive officer Jeff Shewfelt said in a press release.

"We're building a strong credit union that's always there to offer support and guidance through every stage of each member's life."

Scheduled to open on Sept. 25 at the intersection of Hastings and Carleton in the Heights, the branch is already undergoing construction.

"We're planning on new locations in the coming year to further expand our network across the Lower Mainland and bring us even closer to the communities we've built together," said Shewfelt.

TARGET IN 2013

Burnaby won't be getting a Target until the fifth stage of store openings next winter.

According to a corporate press release from Target in mid-July, the Metropolis at Metrotown branch of Target won't open until the winter of 2013/14.

Target plans to open 125 stores in Canada starting in March 2013.

"Construction has already begun on our first set of stores, and we are excited to see the transformation as the Target brand comes to life in Canada," Tony Fisher, president of Target Canada said in a press release. "We have stores spanning from coast-tocoast, and we can't wait to open our doors in Canada."

Each site will be closed for a period of six to nine months for extensive renovations. Target expects to employ between 150 to 200 team members at each store and has already started hiring for store leadership positions.

NEW TECH TOOL

A new locally developed mobile application may soon be a great marketing tool for Burnaby businesses.

TikTok, founded by local tech entrepreneur, Dorian Banks, is a dailydeals mobile application designed to draw traffic to businesses during slow times by using geo-targeting to send free offers to nearby users.

By offering users daily, free offers, TikTok is capturing hold of the growing market of consumers who are looking for the best deal out there - and with 25,000 people in the Lower Mainland using the application daily, businesses in Burnaby are jumping on board.

Chella Levesque, marketing director for Brian Jessel BMW in Burnaby, said her company recently gave a 25 per cent discount off all lifestyle and accessory items through the new app.

"Summer can be a tough time, with people being on vacation, or out being active. So you've got to be pro-active in bringing in business," Levesque said in a press release. "With TikTok, we have the ability to push out incredible deals tailored to the day of week, time of day, or type of weather, and it costs us nothing but the product we're giving away.

Needless to say, we're excited to roll out TikTok offers out this summer."

B.C. ICE CREAM

National Ice Cream Day on July 15 saw the launch of B.C. Rocky Mountain Landslide at Cold Stone Creamery's co-branded Tim Hortons locations.

Cold Stone launched 10 new provincial signature creations - one for each of the country's 10 provinces - and the B.C. creation sounds mouthwateringly good.

The landslide features whipped topping on top of chocolate ice cream to signify the snowy peaks of the Rockies, and Oreo cookie pieces and chocolate chips are mixed in to capture the craggy cliffs of Canada's West.

"Canadians love ice cream, and what better way to celebrate National Ice Cream Day than to enjoy a signature Cold Stone Creamery creation made with real Canadian dairy," Nick Javor, senior vice-president for Cold Stone Creamery Canada said in a press release.

Cold Stone Creamery's provincial creations are available at Tim Hortons and Cold Stone store locations for a limited time.

The Burnaby store is at Metropolis at Metrotown.
