Helen Chang is school board candidate with the Burnaby Municipal Greens:

Helen is a 27-year resident of Burnaby and was elected as a Burnaby school trustee in 2005. Helen has masters degree in clinical and counselling psychology and operates a counselling and communication services practice here in Burnaby. She has been working hard for new immigrants. She believes strongly in our multicultural society and is striving to make it more inclusive and safer. This year she has organized multiculturalism forums to raise awareness about issues we face in our multicultural society. In June, she organized a community round table for debriefing the policy 5.45 of Burnaby board of education. She is preparing another multiculturalism forum on Oct.21 regarding women's issues.

Helen is also working hard to keep our public school system intact and safe. She is organizing a petition drive to make a standardized and comprehensive hate crime reporting system that would minimize bullying in our school environment as well as in our society. She believes that every child counts. In particular, she hopes to minimize the drop-out rate of ESL students by bettering the delivery of ESL and related settlement services by government. Furthermore, she is interested in early intervention of children with special needs and diversifying school resources to meet our 21st century education's goals. That's what she wants to accomplish if Burnaby re-elects her on Nov. 19.
