Helen Ward grew up in Burnaby and has two sons. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in English from SFU and a bachelor's of music from UBC where she also completed ESL teacher training. She has a micro-business providing language and music services. Her civic engagement includes volunteering for Scouts, Amnesty International, the Wilderness Committee, and many music groups. She has recently revived all-age dances at the Capitol Hill Hall. She is a member of the Council of Canadians, La Leche League and Burnaby Family Place. She is a leading national advocate for parents and children as president of Kids First Parent Association of Canada, a frequent media commentator, and a member of the "hockey mums panel" heard regularly on the Corus

Network. Helen brings an extensive knowledge of education issues and choices. She supports a new political vision that empowers and informs parents and prioritizes the needs of children.
