Were you a bit caught off guard by the weather today?

Metro Vancouverites woke up to some snow mixed with rain on Friday (March 11) morning — but temperatures are expected to warm up significantly in the region over the weekend.

Environment Canada is calling for periods of rain throughout the day on Friday and temperatures are expected to dip down to a chilly 2°C overnight. However, Saturday is expected to warm up quite a bit, with temperatures forecasted to reach a double-digit high and a milder low of 6°C overnight.

Sunday is also looking wet, albeit even warmer, with temperatures rising a couple of degrees.

Heading into next week, Monday's forecast includes rain while Tuesday may see showers throughout the day.

Meteorologist Derek Lee told Vancouver Is Awesome in a previous phone interview that Environment Canada is forecasting a La Niña pattern to continue into March, April, and May, which generally means "cooler temperatures for the province."

The cold weather pattern generally means there will be less precipitation which will make for an overall drier spring. "There will be days where you can get a Pacific system as we would in general spring to bring us more moisture," he noted.
