Burnaby residents will need to open up their wallets if they need to top up their vehicle's gas tank this weekend.
The upside: the city currently hosts the cheapest price for fuel in Metro Vancouver for another consecutive week.
GasBuddy.com says $2.03 per litre is the lowest available today, April 12, located at the Smart Gas on Canada Way (see list below).
That's an uptick of four cents from $1.99 per litre last Friday, April 5.
Burnaby's average price for gas has also gone up a notch to $2.08 per litre.
A three-cent increase in carbon taxes that took effect April 1, a seasonal switch to summer blend gasoline, and generally strong global oil prices, have combined to push prices at the pump across the Metro Vancouver region.
Gasoline prices generally rise in the summer because refiners switch to a summer blend, which is slightly more costly to produce, and because the demand for gasoline increases in summer when Canadians start travelling more.
Meanwhile, Costco in Kamloops (1675 Versatile Dr.) still hosts the cheapest gas in the province at a price of of $1.59 per litre — a drop of four cents from last Friday.
B.C.'s lowest prices for fuel can be found around the Okanagan and north-central interior, ranging from $1.62 to $1.68 per litre, according to GasBuddy.com.
