The Burnaby Task Force on Homelessness has launched a new video encouraging people to get involved in community-based efforts to address poverty and homelessness in the city.
The 11-minute video, a partnership between the Burnaby Board of Trade and the non-profit Social Planning and Research Council of B.C., was posted on YouTube on Nov. 13.
“Poverty is the leading cause of homelessness impacting citizens, regardless of age, gender or culture. Eighty percent of people struggling with homelessness are not visible because they are temporarily staying with friends or family,” said Wanda Mulholland, community development coordinator for the task force. “Continued collaboration is the key to moving forward on Burnaby-based solutions.”
The video features many recognizable Burnaby figures, such as Coun. Paul McDonell, Susan Papadionissou and Paul Holden from the Burnaby Board of Trade; and Staff Sgt. Major John Buis of the Burnaby RCMP.
The video highlights the work of the Burnaby Task Force on Homelessness and offers information on how people can get involved.
