After months of public meetings, the Burnaby Hospital community consultation committee is now in the midst of compiling all the feedback and drafting a report for Fraser Health and the Ministry of Health.
Hundreds of people from Burnaby and East Vancouver voiced their opinions over the summer regarding the future of the hospital, either in person or through the committee's social media outlets.
"I think we're, overall, pretty pleased with the public presentations," said spokesperson David Jones, who is a family practitioner in Burnaby and medical coordinator for the hospital.
The committee worked with doctors, health-care providers, unions, employers and community associations to gather information and explore ways to improve the delivery of healthcare services and outcomes at the hospital.
The final meeting was held on Sept. 8, and the committee's goal is to have the report finalized and submitted by Oct. 16.
What steps the ministry or Fraser Health will take in response to the report remains to be seen, he said, noting the committee was tasked only with information gathering.
"What they want to do with the report is the several-million dollar question," he said. "But I think it would be remiss of us not to be very grateful; to thank the people of East Vancouver and Burnaby who came and gave us feedback."
The 12-member committee was chaired by Burnaby-Lougheed MLA Harry Bloy and citizen-chair Pamela Gardner.
