Leave it on the curb, take it to the Eco-Centre or to a tree chipping event

Another Christmas has come and gone, and as you prepare for the new year, you’ll want to get rid of that tree in your living room.

Burnaby residents have several options for disposing of their Christmas trees.

From Jan. 6 to 24, the city will be collecting trees. Just place it on the curb outside your home on the sixth. If you’re in an apartment building, make sure all the trees are in one accessible location.

You can also drop your tree off at Burnaby’s Eco-Centre at 4855 Still Creek Dr. between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on any day of the week (except for New Year’s Day).

On Jan. 4 and 5, you can take your tree to city hall (4949 Canada Way) for a tree chipping event hosted by the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society and the Burnaby Civic Employees Union. The service is by donation and will help fund the city’s warming centres. You can also donate items such as toiletries, clothes and towels.

Tree recycling guidelines from the City of Burnaby:

  • Remove all ornaments, tinsel and lights
  • Do not bag or put your tree in your green bin
  • Trees over five feet must be cut in half
  • No artificial trees are accepted
  • Trees sprayed with snow foam cannot be recycled
