The City of Burnaby is purchasing another historical neon sign that was originally located in the Heights neighbourhood - the Burnaby Eagle.
Burnaby council approved plans to spend $3,700 on the sign at Monday night's council meeting.
The sign was commissioned by the Eagle Motors car dealership at 4161 Hastings St. sometime in 1950, and was created by Neon Products of Vancouver, according to a report from the Burnaby Community Heritage Commission.
The silhouette of a bald eagle in full flight was the company's logo. The dealership closed in 1985.
The sign was bought by a private collector and is in good condition, according to the report.
The city plans to store the sign until staff develop a plan, including funding, to restore it and find a place for it on Hastings Street.
The purchase also includes a smaller Burnaby neon sign from the M&B grocery store, to be added to the Burnaby Village Museum collection, according to the report.
Gaming funds are being used to purchase the signs.
