Snow on Burnaby Mountain.

Heavy snow is falling in parts of Burnaby on Monday morning, especially in higher elevations like Burnaby Mountain and Capitol Hill.

But it's not expected to last so forget about a White Christmas.

An Environment Canada snowfall warning is in effect for:

  • Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
  • Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
  • Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta

Snowfall with total amounts of about 5 cm is expected.
Localized snowfall amounts of 5 cm can be expected this afternoon.
A deepening Pacific low will make its way across Washington State today. Heavy precipitation associated with this system is dragging the snow level down to near sea level. Snowfall amounts will vary wildly depending on elevation, precipitation intensity and proximity to the water.
Heavy precipitation will end late this afternoon as the low moves farther inland.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
