James Wang is a Burnaby Citizens Association candidate seeking re-election as a school trustee:

James Wang came to Canada from China in 1996 and three years later moved to Burnaby, where he lives with his wife and two teenage sons, who are enrolled in Burnaby public schools.

In 2008, James became the first immigrant from Mainland China to be elected in Canada when he was elected as a Burnaby School Trustee. He chose to run with the Burnaby Citizens Association as he was attracted to the leadership and innovation in the Burnaby School District that ensures students are provided with safe, caring schools where every child can find success.

Now 42, James is a successful business leader with a Masters in Business Administration. He volunteers with many community activities and has led a number of local fundraising campaigns for earthquake relief in Haiti and China.

James strongly believes in the importance of the public school system and has worked very hard as a BCA School Trustee to ensure Burnaby's children are successful learners and receiving a quality and inclusive education. Fluent in English and Mandarin, James has been a significant asset in building trust and understanding of the important role publicly funded education plays in building healthy communities.

On why he's running for re-election, James says, "I have two teenage children who are studying in our district and I know how important education is to their future. I want my children and all children to have the best opportunities possible."
