We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend.
1 Get entertained at A Phoenix Christmas with Phoenix Chamber Choir, organist Roy Campbell and the Burnaby District Youth Choir on Saturday, Dec.
17. The concert is at the New Westminster Christian Reformed Church, 8255 13th Ave., Burnaby. Music includes Rihards Dubra's Felix namque es, We Shall Hear the Angels Sing, by Ramona Luengen, Carol of the Magi for choir and cello by John Rutter and carol arrangements by Chester Alwes, David Hill and David Willcocks. Tickets are $25; students and seniors get in for $20. For more information, go to www.phoenix chamberchoir.bc.ca or call 604-584-4755.
2 Get giving to the Burnaby Christmas Bureau at Scotiabank. Throughout December, Burnaby Scotiabank locations have been collecting unwrapped toy donations for the bureau, which makes sure local lowincome families have gifts and food for Christmas.
On Friday, Dec. 16, firefighters will be serving hot chocolate and popcorn while collecting toy donations.
3 Get cheering for Burnaby South Rebels, the No. 7-ranked senior boys' basketball team at the sixth annual Rod Thomson Tournament, on Friday, Dec. 16 and Saturday, Dec. 18. The tournament is in the Burnaby South Secondary gym. There are four games a day, and the championship final is on Saturday at 3: 15 p.m.
4 Check out two young and upcoming artists at the Deer Lake Gallery. Atalanta Shi and David Yao are teaming up for The Natural Gaze + Impressionism, on until Dec. 23. Shi, a local Grade 11 student, has won numerous awards for her work, and Yao has been drawing and painting since he was eight. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. For info, go to www. burnabyartscouncil.org.
5 Get out to the fundraiser for the Burnaby Mental Wealth Society on Friday, Dec. 16 at the West Burnaby United Church. Rainshadow will perform, and there is a silent auction and Christmas dance. The show is 7 to 11 p.m., and tickets are $6 for members and $10 for nonmembers. The society needs all the help they can get, since their funding was cut this year. There will be refreshments and snacks, but no alcohol. For more information, call Anne Wiebe at 604-433-4829 or email [email protected].
