It's less than a month to Christmas and that means everybody's starting to get into the festive mood in Burnaby. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend, and we have a few more events sure to excite all locals.

1 Get charitable on Saturday, Dec. 1 for the Christmas Fun Fair, running from 11: 15 a.m. to 2: 15 p.m. This Vancouver Urban Ministries fundraiser is at the Wesburn Community Centre at 4781 Parkwood Ave. There will be 25 booths for various games all created and run by the high schoolers of Burnaby. The event also features a food concession selling pizza, samosas, chips and drinks, and an item signed by Michael Bublé in the silent auction. All proceeds go towards the ministries' after-school one-on-one therapeutic program for underprivileged children with learning disabilities.

2 Get buying on Saturday, Dec. 1 for the Mistletoe Market at Gordon Presbyterian Church, running from 11: 30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch is $5 for adults and $3 for children six to 12. The event features a silent auction, home baking, crafts and games.

3 Get celebrating for Light Up the Heights, on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Heights Fountain Square (corner of Hastings and MacDonald). This family-friendly event features an open air holiday market, music, treats and fun kids' activities. Admission is free, but the donation of a new, unwrapped toy would be gratefully appreciated by the Burnaby Christmas Bureau. For more info, go to www.burnabyheights.com.

4 Get educated about Japanese culture on Saturday, Dec. 1 for Finding Japan - Early Canadian Encounters with Asia, a presentation by Anne Shannon running from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Nikkei Centre at 6688 Southoaks Cres. Finding Japan looks in the opposite direction to early Canadian engagement westward across the Pacific - when it began, who went and why. For more info, go to www.nikkeiplace.org or call 604-777-7000.

5 Get horsing around on Sunday, Dec. 2 during the Burnaby Horsemen's Association event, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Burnaby Equestrian Centre at 9080 Avalon Ave. This event is hosted by volunteers from the Burnaby Horsemen's Association, with the support

of the City of Burnaby, and features pony rides, horse demonstrations, info about the public lesson program and the facility in general. Bring some change for concession snacks and well-heeled boots for pony rides. Free family event, however non-perishable food items will be accepted for the Burnaby Food Bank.
